Scottish Screenwriters was founded in 2006 as a result of my participation in the Writer’s Factory Screenwriting Course at GMAC. (The Glasgow Media Access Centre) John McShane, who would go on to be my co-author in Robert Burns in Edinburgh, attended the same course, which was tutored by Eleanor Yule. We enjoyed the workshopping element of the course so much that we began a little group, meeting once a month at the GFT (Glasgow Film Theatre).

However, when numbers grew the CCA (Centre for Contemporary Art) were good enough to offer us the use of the cinema space, a space we used for several more years.

As numbers continued to grow, the spaces used for lecturing, screenings and workshopping varied, allowing the group to make the most of the flexibility of spaces within the building.
Over the years we had many guests come in to pass on their experiences in the Scottish Film Industry or to run workshops. We had visitors from Scottish Screen, Creative Scotland, BAFTA Scotland and the BBC. We had inspiring guests and filmmakers visit from all over the world, ....

Due to the demands of several ongoing projects, I made the decision to leave the group in 2013, recruiting Christina Littleson, Eddie McFadden and Gerry Byron to replace me in assisting John. Yes, it did take three people to replace me!

In actual fact, the ‘new blood’ have injected sparkling new life into the group, becoming more pro-active in assisting screenwriters with the process of developing workshopped screenplays into produced films.

The group continues to grow from strength to strength, with attendances now higher than ever. There is a great demand from screenwriters at all stages of their development for a group where they can meet fellow screenwriters.

To the present day, Scottish Screenwriters provides this service.
